Voilà: Oak Street Gets a Bike Lane
Just in time for Thursday's Bike to Work Day, a 3-block stretch of Oak Street is now home to a brand-spankin' new bike lane.

The lane has been taking shape over the course of the day today, starting at Oak and Baker (across from the DMV, pictured above). It continues east across Broderick and down to Divisadero...
...where it passes by Vinyl...
The third block, from Divisadero to Scott, is being worked on right now. They've already shifted the lanes of traffic slightly to accommodate the bike lane, and now all that seems to be left is the striping and painting. This is all part of the Oak and Fell Bikeways Project, which has already seen a bike lane installed on the corresponding blocks of Fell Street going westward. Still to come are barriers to further separate the bike lanes from automobile traffic, as well as corner bulbouts and neighborhood greening along the route. Those elements should be coming later this year. We'll keep an eye on it!
