Specifically at Market, Sanchez and 15th, and Market, Noe, and 16th. With these new developments, the Castro / Upper Market area is set to receive millions of dollars in developer community benefit fees, according to DTNA President Pat Tura. Tura says the SF Municipal Transportation Agency is trying to determine how the money should be spent now that both intersections are set to have an influx of new residents utilizing pedestrian rights of way. The three developments at Market, Sanchez and 15th alone are set to yield nearly 200 new units and there could be up to 300 new residents living at these intersections within the next three years. Tura said that, "these large 6 point intersections result in complex problems which require resources and commitment to resolve." The DTNA has proposed to the MTA that a comprehensive plan should be developed for the these intersections and hopes to have an influence on pedestrian and vehicular traffic decisions with the data collected from this survey. In 2011 and 2012 the DTNA conducted interviews at intersections up and down the Castro / Upper Market corridor to better understand how people felt about pedestrian safety, traffic flow, and the overall movement at various intersections intersections. They collected hand-written information from about 100 people. To get a more in-depth understanding of this preliminary data the DTNA designed this new online survey based on their previous work.
