Well summer's officially here, which means that San Francisco Pride is right around the corner.
This coming weekend and, really, the week leading up to it, we'll see people flocking to the city to kick off the festivities. Why are we telling you now? Because grouchy as we might sometimes be, that's how excited we are. And after a rocky start about who's going to be grand marshal (seriously, read that article if you haven't) and some ruffled feathers all around, it looks like things are finally happening. The big pink triangle is up on Twin Peaks, the official Pride http://sfpride.org/celebration/main-stage.html is announced, you know the drill. For the uninitiated, the basics: Pink Party Saturday night in the Castro (no drinks for sale on the street, though, so put your friendly face on), parade Sunday morning down Market to 8th Street, convening in Civic Center. But really this year we're feeling a little off-center stage, so here's what we're thinking: First, obviously it isn't Pride without a proper kickoff (or two or three, depending) at our own dear lovely Trax. Do it. Saturday afternoon, there's Pink Mammoth block party out in the flats (you know, because we like our daytime partying with plenty of space). It's going to be super-groovy. Then on Sunday, the spot to check out is Hard French's Hearts Los Homos party at Roccapulco. It's deep Mission, out of the general fray, and trust us: Hard French knows how to party. They'll have their standard soul-funk jam DJ's plus some extraterrestrial drag queens (Grace Towers et al.). Oh, and ride safe. If you're in a real fix and you need a safe, non-cab ride hit up our friends at Homobiles, a volunteer-based LGBT-safe donation-based pickup service. OK, so that's the deal, kittens. Play safe, have fun.
