Now it's even easier for Castro residents to report 311 related issues. The city recently released a new app available on the
Google Play Store and
Apple App Store called SF311 that allows anyone to submit detailed reports on a myriad of neighborhood issues including:
- abandoned vehicles
- graffiti
- illegal postings
- street or sidewalk cleaning
- streetlight repair
- blocked sidewalks or parking spaces
- damaged property
- litter receptacles (damaged or overflowing)
- park issue
- sign repair
- sewer issue
- sidewalk defect
- street defect (potholes, etc.)
- tree maintenance
This program is an enhancement from the city's
Twitter reporting program started in 2009 where people could tweet
@SF311 with photos and details of neighborhood issues and the reports would be logged into the 311 system.
The app works similarly and provides even greater reporting detail than Twitter's 140 character limit allows. Users can submit photos, pinpoint issues on a map, select a specific issue category, select which objects (if any) are affected, and add detailed descriptions. The app also allows you to track the progress of a request you've made or view other requests made nearby. When an issue you have reported is updated by 311 staff, users will receive a notification as to the status of the issue. Users can submit reports anonymously or include their contact information. Check out some of the screenshots I took while reporting an issue.
I just installed the App on my phone and plan to use it whenever I see something out of sorts here in the Castro. Remember this is not to report crimes. Please dial 911 for emergencies.
