In addition to the onslaught of summer tourists and festival-goers, there's also been a visible uptick in local crime.
Here's a snapshot of a few incidents in the past week.
In the past couple of weeks, local shops have reported the appearance of a San Francisco-based trans performance artist named Bambi Lake. She's been seen at Gamescape (Divisadero), Parada 22 and the Booksmith. She's reported to shoplift boldly, cause outrageous scenes, hassle customers and get physical. She's still out and about, and she looks like this: ------------------------------ On Sunday afternoon, there was an incident at the corner of Haight and Belvedere, in which an employee at a local shop was driving into work when two young men stopped in the crosswalk in front of him and started throwing drinks at the car, which was a late-model black Mercedes-Benz. The driver, who we spoke with, reportedly stopped the car and got out to fight the two young men, one of whom responded by jumping on the roof of the Mercedez and doing this: Employees at the Booksmith called the police, who released the young men at the time of the incident because they didn't initiate physical contact. One of the men works in the neighborhood, also. They look like this: ------------------------------ And today, in one of our local Naked Men's perambulations of the hood, and shortly after a reader tweeted this picture, a man in his late forties or early fifties walked up and hit Naked Man in the face. Bystanders ducked into Distractions to get out of the fray and some nearby street kids intervened on behalf of the naked guy, who disappeared. The man who assaulted him walked west on Haight and disappeared into the crowd, but before that happened, he looked like this: Anyway, stay safe out there kids.
