The same week that former owner Bette Mosias died, Mendel's had its front window smashed in.
Last night around 7:45, someone broke the plate glass display window in the Mendel's storefront. Four police cruisers reported to the scene and shortly after the incident the sidewalk was crowded with passersby and witnesses. It was unclear immediately whether the incident was accidental, but police had a suspect in the back of a cruiser and another one on the sidewalk just a few minutes after arriving on the scene. According to a witness from Martin Macks, the suspect came into the bar to ask for a broom, saying the break was an accident. She also said that the police's primary suspect had been "tweaking" lately and offering rocks to people walking by. At the time of this writing, the SFPD had no further updates on the incident, although one of the men police were speaking to was later seen a block away in a physical altercation with another man.
