Nights Out, Lights Out
The Haight Ashbury Merchants' Association has officially launched its holiday street light fundraiser. Look at plans, see progress, and donate.

HAMA is undergoing its third consecutive year of putting up holiday lights on the street. Last year's lights looked something like this. The goal this year is to raise $10K, or enough to decorate eight street trees and add white lights to others. The fundraiser is already half way to its goal, which is up in 20 days. $10K is a lot, you might say, given that you can throw up your organic Oregon fir tree and tinsel it for $120, but keep in mind that outdoor trees need permitting, insurance, installation and removal. White lights alone for the street cost $12,000. The first round of holiday lights is slated to go up November 7th, with another, second round to go up after the fundraiser is over. HAMA is also looking for volunteers to help set up lights and contribute to the displays. You can contact them at [email protected] if you're interested.
