Yesterday, we spotted a mobile hanging on a tree outside of Distractions. Naturally, we're on the case.
Being so close to Mendel's, we assumed it was their handiwork, but they said it was there when they got to work that morning. We asked at Distractions, and only one employee had even noticed it before we pointed it out. At both stores, people verified it definitely was not there on Saturday. Pretty impressive overnight installation, considering that it's hanging off a brace that's bolted to the tree: It reminds us of some other mobiles we've seen around the city. There's the one on Castro, between 18th & Market on the East side of the street, with the barbies. There's also the one at the top of the stairs at Dolores Park, by Church St., with the compact mirrors. Anyone see it go up, or know the artist that makes them? Is it even the same artist? We're dying to know. Also, it's gorgeous, so nice work.
