Lower Haight Leftovers: 1/24
Homemade bread, home-brewed beer, crowd-sourced art, and crowd-funded jeans? Today's leftovers are straight-up artisanal. Let's get crafty.

Tonight, Mad Dog in the Fog (530 Haight) hosts its monthly LGBT night dubbed Pink Friday. This one doubles as a birthday party for bartender Jordan Smith. Expect go-go dancers, jello shots, and DJs from 9pm to 2am, with no cover. 4x5 Gallery (442 Haight) has announced a call for submissions for its upcoming juried exhibition, entitled "Home." You can submit up to three photographs representing what "home" means to you. ("Is it a physical place or a familiar emotional state? A sanctuary from the outside world?") Entries are due February 15th; the show will debut in April. Two Jacks (401 Haight) is looking to expand its beer selection, and wants to know what you'd like to see on the menu. "Lagunitas IPA, Lagunitas PIL, Stella Artois, Speakeasy. Any favorites?" The folks behind Revolver (136 Fillmore) are starting their own line of menswear. Named Dillon Montara after two Bay Area beaches, the line will feature denim, jackets, and shirts made by hand in San Francisco. To get the project off the ground, they're running a Kickstarter campaign. And while they've already met their $10,000 goal, you can still make a contribution (and get yourself an item or two of menswear, depending on the level of your pledge). Speaking of Revolver, we already told you about owner Robert Patterson's upcoming microbrewery Black Sands, coming soon to 701 Haight. Well, this week neighbors received letters from Black Sands introducing their plans. Specifically, they'll be selling home brew kits and ingredients, and hosting brewing classes, as well as offering beer and food on-site. You can check out their new website for more info. Down at Market and Sanchez, there's an update on future plans for Cafe du Nord. Inside Scoop reports that a star-studded team is taking over the food and drink program, including the groups behind Flour + Water and Trick Dog. They're envisioning "a good neighborhood bar with well-done cocktails," and "straightforward fare in a dark, bar atmosphere." The name will also change from Cafe du Nord to just "Du Nord." Finally, over on Divisadero, The Mill's Josey Baker revealed on his blog this week that he has finished writing a cookbook. It's called "Josey Baker Bread: Get Baking. Make Great Bread. Be Happy!" and is described as "the first true entry-level bread-baking cookbook." It'll be released on April 15th. Anything we missed this week? Do holler. tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
