SF And The Castro A Miss For Best Gay Destinations7AM in the Castro Day of Decision

It's the beginning of a new year and that means it is time for arbitrarily measured best of the best lists (ie link bait) including the best or most gay places to visit in 2014. The Advocate posted their annual Gayest Cities in America list for 2014 and San Francisco made spot number 11. Number one on the list is Washington, DC. This years scoring criteria is just as non-scientific as you might expect from such a list and included the number of Mariah Carey, Pink, Lady Gaga, and Jonas Brothers concerts and gay rodeos the city hosted. SF was also beat by Pasadena, CA, Arlington, VA, and Salt Lake City, UT. Out Magazine named the Mission, particularly the area located "between Dolores and Valencia streets" (Guerrero?), runner up to Boystown, Chicago in 2014's Incomparable Gay Neighborhood category. The article mentions that the focus is being turned away from the Castro as it "seems stuck in the days of Harvey Milk". Yikes. Supervisor Wiener did soften the blow (clutches pearls) a little bit when interviewed by SFGate regarding SF making number 11 in the Advocate's Gayest Cities in America list saying,

“I just think it’s terrific that people can grow up in places and not think automatically that they have to stay in the closet or go to San Francisco or New York or Atlanta,”
He has a point. Anyway, if you want to read these lists, Google them.
