We haven't seen any jackhammers or orange cones along Castro Street yet, but we did get an update from the Castro Community Benefit District and Supervisor Scott Wiener on when construction on the Castro Streetscape Improvement Project would begin.
According to Executive Director Andrea Aiello at the CBD, the 30-day notice of construction went out on January 24th which means that construction should commence the week of February 24th. The first 2 weeks will be mostly surveying work so neighbors shouldn't notice any disruption until mid-March.

Construction is set to begin at Castro & Market and at Jane Warner Plaza first. After that, according to Aiello, it is still unclear how it will roll out. The 30 day notice did mention they would be working 7 days a week including some night time work. It is built into the agreement with the contractor to vacate the street (completely dismantle and remove all construction equipment etc.) during Pride from 6/13 - 6/30 and also for the Castro Street Fair if they are still around then, though, at the Castro Merchants meeting on Thursday, the Department of Public Works mentioned they were still on schedule for an October completion date. Supervisor Wiener mentioned in an email to the Biscuit that construction on Castro Street between Market and 18th is slated for completion by mid-June and Castro between 18th and 19th by the beginning of October.
The CBD has a website dedicated to the project which is designed to update neighbors on the project and construction.
