Demolition is progressing at a fever pitch in the Castro, which is great, because the sooner they finish demolishing, the sooner they will start constructing new and wider sidewalks and come closer to wrapping up the project, and the less complaining we'll hear about the whole thing here on the Biscuit.

A construction alert was sent out by the Castro / Upper Market Community Benefit District's CastroStreet.org website, which is chronicling the process (is anyone doing a photo timelapse? because that would be lovely), stating that the water main replacement work being done on the westside of the 400 block (between Market and 18th) will be continuing into this week and demo of the sidewalks will start today (with fencing going up on the westside of Castro Street between Market and 19th this past Saturday).
Demolition crews will start with the westside sidewalk of the 400 block. Demolition of the 400 block sidewalks is set to continue into next week and demolition of the 500 block will start around the end of next week.
Expect pedestrian and vehicle traffic delays.
During demolition, businesses on the westside of Castro Street will still be opened. The fencing extends from the street to about 4-6' away from the building exteriors allowing a narrow path for walking.
