Local Legend Kelly Malone, founder of Workshop SF up on McAllister and Baker, is visiting San Francisco after recently moving to Philadelphia to start another DIY Workshop out there. While she’s here she’s going to party, and she brought a whole lot of Philadelphia back with her.
In case you aren’t familiar, Workshop is a DIY center that offers classes in just about everything, from brewing your own ginger beer to making soap, silk screening to cooking the perfect pizza (and everything in between—check their calendar).
In fact, the namesake of the event, Comrade’s, is the small brewing company run by Jason Beck, the brewing teacher at Workshop. He's got some crazy-sounding beer on offer, including Oak Smoked Acorn Nut Brown Ale, Blood-Orange Gluten-Free Saison, the Mala Hot Pot Double IPA (according to Kelly it’s the best she’s ever had), and finally, the "People's Choice" Roasted Banana and Donut Bread-Pudding Weizenbock.
According to Comrade’s Facebook, “it’s going to be a thing.”
In addition to beer, Kelly McVicker, of McVickers Pickles will be set up and slangin’ some of her briny goodness. It should also be noted that she too teaches a pickling class at Workshop.

But we anticipate the real star of this show to be the Philly cheesesteaks cooked up by Kelly and the one and only Wes Rowe of Wesburger. With Kelly a hardcore Philadelphian and Wes' history of amazing cheesburgers, we predict that these two will not be messing around.
What’s for dessert, you ask? Treats from Philly, of course. Kelly’s suitcases were filled mostly with food, including eighty pounds of Water Ice, Tasty Cakes Tastykakes and Peanut Chews. Transplants eat your heart out…
“It’s a chance for the neighborhood to come out,” says Malone. “Most teachers will be there. And, after all, our motto is ‘Drink Beer, Make Stuff’. It’s going to be fun.” Sounds like it.
The event is from 5pm to 10 pm tonight, March 21st. See you there.
