Umami Mart is hosting a block party this Thursday evening, celebrating the official opening of its Japan barware store on Divisadero.
We visited Umami Mart back in January, two months after they opened shop in the back of The Perish Trust. Due to a number of delays (including the earthquake retrofitting of the space last month) they are only now getting around to celebrating their quiet November opening. And this Thursday will be anything but!
The Oakland-based company, which began life as a Japan-oriented cocktail blog seven years ago, is teaming up with neighboring businesses The Mill, 4505 Meats, and The Perish Trust to offer specials from 6pm to 9pm that night. 4505's Ryan Farr will be serving his famous brisket, and Umami's Casa de Kei will have Japanese street food on hand.
As for the entertainment, traditional Japanese drums group Emeryville Taiko will be performing in front of the store in the earlier part of the evening. Then DJ Spaziale will be spinning funkadelic 70′s sounds from Japan.
All in all Thursday night is gearing up to be a celebration of the Divisadero neighborhood that can't be missed. We'll see you there.
