Rare Device is hosting several great book signings and art shows this spring, and we've got the lowdown.
Rare Device has occupied the corner of Divisadero and Hayes since March of 2012 , its signature yellow door lighting up the neighborhood. Longtime Rare Device fans may remember its first location on Market Street, when it was run by the creative duo Rena Tom and Lisa Congdon. Local resident Giselle Gyazen is now the owner. Here's how she describes the reason for the move to Divisadero:
I wanted to be a part of a thriving community. Having such a vibrant neighborhood around us inspires me to create community-building events like our monthly free Story/Song/Dance Time for the kiddos, and Trunk Shows featuring local artists. I want to expand this even further, by finding more ways to give back to this neighborhood that has welcomed us so warmly.
Aside from their stellar collection of all things precious and cute, Rare Device also plays host to a number of events each month, highlighting the work of local artists and writers. Here's what's coming up:

Saturday April 19th (yes, that's tomorrow) Lorena Siminovich from Petit Collage will be signing her first book, Petit Collage: 25 Easy Craft & Decor Projects For A Playful Home. A local of San Francisco, you may have seen Lorena's sweet and simple kids' products in your local toy stores. Empanadas from El Porteño will be served, and free gift bags full of craft supplies will be handed out.

Next Thursday (April 24th), artist and former Rare Device-r Lisa Congdon will be launching her book Whatever You Are, Be a Good One. Lisa used to reside in San Francisco before moving to Oakland last year. Stop by and say hello, grab a book, and sip a glass of wine.

In May, Tiffanie Turner (who lives just a couple blocks away) will be having a solo art show. Titled "HEADS", the show is a collection of giant paper blossoms "exploring the organized chaos and rhythms of nature." Each piece took between 35–80 hours to make. Stop by on May 9th for the opening, or anytime between May 2nd–28th to catch a peek.
As always, you can stay in the loop with events at Rare Device by following them on Facebook. And on days when events aren't happening, it's still worth stopping in—if for no other reason to say hi to Rooney the rat terrier.
