In addition to the proposed parking changes that are currently in the works for the Alamo Square area,  a change.org petition has appeared with the goal to expand the residential parking permit S area to include the streets surrounding Buena Vista Park.

As you can see in the above image, the proposed zone would extend to Buena Vista West from Upper Terrace to Central Avenue, continuing on Central Avenue to Waller Street.

Behind the petition is Michelle Leighton, who argues that the area surrounding the park has become "a free, unrestricted, and long-term parking zone for non-residents spending time in Buena Vista Park, Haight Street and surrounding areas, as well as neighbors on abutting permitted streets who choose not to purchase a permit."

The reason for parking permits, as stated on the SFMTA's website, is to provide more spaces for residents by discouraging long-term parking. As of this writing, the petition only has 4 signatures, so if this is near and dear to you, you can go over and sign

Considering that the Alamo Square permit issue took more than a year to get moving, this project might be a while in the works. We'll keep you posted.
