Yerba Buena Community Acupuncture (which expanded a few months ago) is hosting a food drive for the month of June.
In acknowledgement of the fact that summer can be a difficult time for low income families whose kids are not getting lunches at school, our local acupuncture clinic decided to run a monthly special while supporting a good cause. Owner Demetra Markis has this to say about their plans:
"In the past, we have run unemployment specials during the summer; offering lower-cost treatments for people out of work. This year, even though unemployment is low, housing costs have become so high that more people are forced to rely on other resources to meet their food needs."
They're especially looking for plastic jars of peanut butter, packages of granola bars and boxes of cereal, as well as cans of soup, beans, tuna, and vegetables.
All collected food will be donated to the SF - Marin Food Bank at the end of the month. And if you swing by their location on McAllister at Baker to drop off some goods, you'll get a discounted treatment ($15 instead of $20).
If you're interested in partnering up with Yerba Buena Community Acupuncture, they're open to working with local neighborhood groups for future programs. To get in touch, write them an email at yerbabuenaacupuncture {at} gmail {[dot]} com.
