This week was full of odd bits of news, with everything from some great concert lineups at The Independent to a robbery involving an eight year old selling candy. Here's what we rounded up:
- Local farmers markets are hosting a photo sweepstakes during the month of August. Photos can be your favorite farmers market fruit, vendor, or anything you love about your market. First prize is admission for two to the Hoes Down Festival and a one night stay at the nearby Capay Valley Bed & Breakfast. More details here!
- Outside Lands' night shows have been announced, and
allmany of them are being held at The Independent (with others at The Fox, Brick & Mortar, Rickshaw Stop and more). If you already have Outside Lands tickets you can enter to win night show tickets, or purchase them directly here.
- Craving some attention to certain beautification issues in your neighborhood? SF Beautiful is inviting residents to bring issues to them this summer. They'll be visiting various neighborhoods "seeking input on your community’s beautification and livability goals". We'll keep you updated on when they swing through our hood, but in the meantime you can fill out their survey here.
- On July 14th, SFPD responded to a call on Divisadero and Eddy regarding an aggressive mugging, the victim of which was an 8 year old child selling candy. After asking for change, the female suspect twisted the victim's arm, forcing them to release their earnings. She was apprehended and taken into custody with the charges of "force, assault with force, and willful harm or injury to a child". The SFPD gave the arrest an unusual amount of attention, even posting the suspect's mug shot to its social media accounts.
- Bi-Rite is hosting a "Great Agave Sale", offering 10% off bottles of tequila and mezcal through the end of day Sunday.
- Feel like dancing tonight? Madrone's ever-popular Fringe Indie Night is celebrating their 5 Year Anniversary tonight. Doors open at 9pm and the first 50 people will receive a free tote bag and other goodies.
