Politics, art, and outdoor jazz collide on this weekend's busy local calendar. Here are a few items for your consideration.
Tonight, Glass Key Photo (442 Haight) hosts a showing of works by students of the First Exposures summer program, which provides a creative outlet for underserved local youth. Dubbed "The Changing Landscape of San Francisco Summer Show," the exhibit runs from 6pm to 8pm.
Also tonight, DSF (520 Haight) hosts another night of American Tripps ping-pong. DJ xoAlicia will be on the turntables spinning "upbeat/danceable jams." It starts at 8pm, is 21+, and will set you back $5 at the door.
Tomorrow afternoon, hop up to Alamo Square for a special outdoor music jam featuring Gypsy Jazz music. Musician Louis Matthee will be leading musicians in a set of music by the likes of Django Reinhardt and Dorado Schmitt. Bring an instrument if you want to participate, or just pull up a blanket and enjoy the tunes. The jazz jam starts at 1pm.
Also tomorrow afternoon, the D5 Democratic Club invites you to a voter education seminar. Learn about the issues on the ballot this November, and meet some of the candidates for various local positions. The seminar runs from noon to 6pm at the LGBT Communtiy Center, 1800 Market Street.
Tomorrow night, Fifty24SF (218 Fillmore) hosts the opening of a new exhibit: Wolfbat, a collection of prints and small works by artist Dennis McNett. The Brooklyn-based artist will be showing off block prints, masks, and sculptures, starting at 6pm.
And also tomorrow night, Mad Dog in the Fog (530 Haight) is the place to kick off your Burning Man countdown. The bar will host a launch party for Playa Place, a pop-up shop that's selling burner fashions at Second Act Marketplace (1727 Haight) for the next two Saturdays. Tomorrow night's party features DJ Scott Carelli and kicks off at 10pm.
Those are this weekend's highlights. If perchance we missed something, feel free to let us know in the comments.
