If you've been reading some of the crime posts we've made lately and have been wondering what you could do to help keep the Castro safe, consider joining the Castro Community on Patrol (CCOP). The CCOP is an all-volunteer group of community members that make the Castro a safer place to live, work, and play through their regular patrols of the Castro and Duboce Triangle neighborhoods. Whether that means handing out safety information, putting intoxicated people in cabs back to their hotels, calling ambulances for medical emergencies, or interfacing with the SFPD, the presence of the patrollers in the neighborhood streets sends a message that the community cares about keeping the Castro safe. Working with the patrol is as simple as dedicating one night a month for 3-4 hours to walk the neighborhood with other patrollers. The CCOP is having a training session for new volunteers tomorrow, September 6th from 1PM to 4:30PM. Sign up here.
