Art, art, chicken wings, and more art are on today's menu in and around the neighborhood. Here's your handy roundup.
This is the fourth and final weekend of Artspan's SF Open Studios, in which artists all over the city open up their studios to the public. This weekend focuses on neighborhoods including our own, with studios in the area open from 11am to 6pm today and tomorrow. You can check out the map and plan your itinerary here.
Speaking of art, a new show opened last night at DSF (520 Haight). Local illustrator Jacinto Castillo presents a new series of works dubbed AM Radio, which he describes as "a collection of found objects depicting vintage radios, local architecture and a mix of both." AM Radio will be up throughout the month, so drop by and check it out.
This afternoon will see the 3rd annual Wing Wings Chicken Wing Eating Contest at SoMa's Streat Food Park. Yes, that's outside the neighborhood, but it sounds like it'll be worth the trip. Watch competitors stuff themselves, listen to DJs, have a drink or two, maybe win a prize, and benefit a deserving organization (Curry Without Worry) in the process. That's today from 12pm to 4pm at 11th and Bryant-ish.
As we mentioned yesterday, the Harvey Milk Photo Center in Duboce Park is hosting the opening of an exhibit of photographs from the '40s and '50s by Fred Lyon. The opening reception is today from 1pm to 4pm, and Lyon himself will be in attendance signing copies of his new book. That's at 50 Scott Street, in case you're curious.
Finally, just a reminder that the N Judah line will be disrupted through Monday morning as part of the Sunset Tunnel Trackway Improvement Project. Bus service will replace the Muni trains between Church Street and Ocean Beach. Expect this process to repeat for the next two weekends, and a dozen more weekends next year.
Enjoy your Saturday.
