The party weekend is over and most of us are back at work, perhaps a little foggier-headed than usual. Time to take a deep breath, drink some coffee (and/or water), and catch up on your upcoming local events:
  • As you're probably all too aware, Tuesday November 4th is Election Day. Check out our summary of who and what are up for your vote. Not sure where to do your democratic business? Here's a handy guide for finding your conveniently-located voting station.
  • Starting Wednesday November 5th, Rare Device will be hosting every single item made by of the ever-popular Yellow Owl Workshop  in their gallery space.  Crafters, gift-givers and lovers of all things cute, you can get more info here
  • November 5th is also #LoveLocalSF, a citywide event to honor "all things that make our city unique." Participating Divisadero businesses include Rare Device, which will be holding a draw-a-thon with the theme "What Does San Francisco Mean To You?" (Final results will be posted in the store window.) Other participating businesses are The Mill, which will be serving up special red toast to signify their love, and La Urbana, which will be making special Jubilee Julep cocktails containing mezcal, cherry gastrique, lemon, St. George absinthe, mint and crushed ice.
  • Also taking place this Wednesday November 5th is a community meeting about the upcoming 5-Fulton bus changes. The 5 currently carries over 19,000 people per day at an average speed of 9.6 miles an hour. This meeting will include a discussion of the proposed route upgrades which would include traffic lights to replace stop signs, pedestrian bulb-outs, and more. Head over to the African American Art and Culture Complex at 762 Fulton Street  from 6:30-8pm this Wednesday to learn more.
  • And while we're on the topic of changes to the infrastructure of our neighborhood, don't forget the very important meeting about the proposed Area Q parking permit zone, which will take place on November 10th. As a reminder, this will be the community's chance to voice their concerns and raise questions about the somewhat controversial Alamo Square residential parking permit zone that's in the works.
  • Finally, a little more artistic fun can be had this Friday at Big Umbrella Studios, which is hosting a show featuring the artwork, zines, music and more made by recent graduates of USF. Called "The Next Degree", the show's opening will include live music, lively conversation, and of course, libations.
Enjoy your week, Hoodline readers!
