'Kung Food' Restaurant Headed To Divis And McAllisterPhoto: Stephen Jackson / Hoodline
Another new restaurant is headed to the neighborhood, and this time it’s not a pizza joint
Although details are still emerging, the long-vacant storefront at 1615 McAllister (just west of Divisadero) appears to be getting transformed into a Chinese restaurant.

Permits were granted in June and December of last year, allowing the existing space to be transformed from a barber shop to a full-time restaurant. More recently, a permit was awarded on September 14th allowing a cooking range to be set up in the building.

Several months ago, we asked some folks who were working on the construction site what the space was going to be, and they said that it was set to become a Chinese food restaurant. Last week, in a confirmation of that rumor, a business was registered at 1615 McAllister under the name "Kung Food."

What remains to be seen is whether or not the new business will follow the trend of pricier restaurants opening up over the past decade, or if it will break the mold and serve more affordable fare akin to the Divisadero of years past.

Either way, we’ll keep you updated as we get more information and an opening date draws near.
