Let's talk about an ice cream social, New Year's Eve options, and two different sweater-related happenings.

This afternoon, the John Muir Elementary School (380 Webster) will be the site of a Jamboree Ice Cream Social, hosted by the Buchanan YMCA. Some recruits from the San Francisco Police Academy will be on hand as well, as the SFPD pursues a goal of "strengthening police-community relations and encouraging neighborhood camaraderie by participating in neighborhood events." The ice cream social runs from 3:30pm and 5:30pm.

Tonight, Danny Coyle's (668 Haight) hosts an Xmas Ugly Sweater Party. From 7pm to close, the bar invites you to don your tackiest holiday apparel and head on down for discounted Sam Adams ($3 bottles, $5 pints). And the best ugly sweater wins an unspecified prize, and likely some ridicule.

In not-ugly sweater news, Aline Dazogbo of Aline's Closet (101 Pierce) is raising money to start her own online clothing line. In addition to running the local boutique, Aline is a talented fashion designer who is now hoping to reach new customers. If her Kiva campaign is successful, she plans to produce 100 units of her best-selling creation, "The Perfect Cardigan," and bring her brand ("A line by Aline") online. What are you doing New Year's Eve? If you're staying in San Francisco and don't have plans yet, consider ringing out 2014 at one of our fine local restaurants. Maven (598 Haight) is now taking reservations for the big night - call 415-829-7982 for details. And Ragazza will have three dinner seatings available - check here for updates. If you're a local restaurant with special New Year's Eve offerings, let us know and we'll spread the word.

And finally, just a heads-up that SantaCon is tomorrow. So, expect a lot of boisterous, costume-clad revelers stumbling around the neighborhood and beyond.
