When listening to Angel Olsen sing, a strong emotional response is a common side effect. The St. Louis songstress has one of the most beautifully haunting voices we’ve heard in awhile. For this show (and most of her U.S. tour) she will be joined by a full band, breathing new life into her compositions. Her voice is complemented by her lyrics, forcing listeners to look in inside themselves while taking in her words.

Tuesday, December 2nd

Act: Li Xi
Location: Brick & Mortar
Start Time: 8pm
Price: $9
At first glance, Li Xi seems like your typical pop group, utilizing single-minded progressions and hooks designed to stick to your subconscious. Between the lines however, Li Xi produces a multilayered soundscape. Using building blocks such as string machines and analog synthesizers, Li Xi turns what might start as a barebones melody into an impenetrable wall of three part harmonies and hypnotizing rhythms. Fronted by the silky smooth vocal talents of Maryann Tran, Li Xi's shows offer an escape to a beautifully illustrated musical paradise.

Wednesday, December 3rd

Location: Slim’s
Start Time: 8pm (Doors 7pm)
Price: $15 ($17 at Door)
Sara Jackson-Holman proves that the internet is not killing musicians. Her captivating voice was enough to get her signed to a label after leaving a comment on the page of one of her favorite artists, which in turn drew the attention of a label president — and she had not even recorded a demo yet! She then burst onto the scene with a debut album whose first single ended up closing out Season 2 of ABC’s TV series "Castle" in 2010. Now on her third release, Jackson-Holman has seamlessly blended the aesthetic of contemporary hip hop beats and soothing rhythmic ballads, creating a unique and enchanting sound.

Thursday, December 4th

Location: The Addition
Start Time: 8pm (Doors 7pm)
Price: $45
This week The Addition (formerly Yoshi’s SF) is taking us back to the 1990's for not one, not two, but FOUR nights. Mint Condition, originally formed in Minnesota’s Twin Cities, has enjoyed a lengthy career, reaching gold status with the success of its first album “Meant to Be Mint” in 1991. Since then, the group has been a fixture in the world of R&B. Recently the group reacquired all but one of its original members, Keri Lewis (who produces the music of his wife Toni Braxton). Mint Condition will be performing live at The Addition from Thursday through Saturday this week, so catch the soulful goodness while it lasts!

Friday, December 5th

Start Time: 8pm
Price: $10
Brothers Greg and Tim Andersen have been cultivating their sound since 2007, slowly introducing new members into the band over the years. With the addition of guitarist Steve Taylor in 2009, Greater Sirens developed a sharp and modern sound that doesn't shy away from showcasing its (obvious) influence of '80s pop rock. The group is currently hard at work on its first full length album produced by Greg Andersen himself. These guys will be opening 50 Mason's "SF Indie Popfest" so make sure to get there early.

Saturday, December 6th

Location: The Independent
Start Time: 9pm (doors 8:30pm)
Price: $16
It’s a good thing that Liam McCormick and John Seeterlin decided to stick with music. The duo struggled with their direction while playing in a different project, and began questioning what exactly it was that they were about. In reinventing their sound and how they composed their art, they formed The Family Crest in 2009, a recording project that ended up incorporating more than 80 people. The complex simplicity of its music has won over droves of music appreciators, and the current incarnation of this now seven-piece project is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
