Next week in the Inner Sunset gives you a chance to do some good, show off your mad trivia skills, or beat the cat out of the barrel, Danish-style. Lad os gå! (Let's go!")

Sunday:

Fastelavn is the Danish version of Carnival, the holiday that kicks off Lent in Denmark. To celebrate, The Scandinavian School in San Francisco is hosting a Fastelavn party where attendees can try traditional foods like fastelavnsboller and play “slå katten af tønden,” a piñata-like game that translates as “beat the cat out of the barrel.”

The Scandinavian School in San Francisco is located at 20 Woodside Ave. This event is for parents and children only: admission is $7.50 for kids, $12.50 for grown-ups, 10:30 am - 1 pm, RSVP on Eventbrite.

Monday:

Blackthorn Tavern (834 Irving St.) is one of the Inner Sunset’s best-known sports bars, but nerds are welcome on Monday at 9 pm to show off their skills at Trivia Night. Contestants will enjoy drink specials, and winners take home prizes.

Tuesday:

Memory Care Café is holding a Forgetfulness Friendly Social Group from 10 to noon. The organization brings volunteers together with care givers and people who have early-stage Alzheimer’s and related problems to “support each other and understand the challenges of memory loss, and the different ways it affects each of us.”

There’s no cost to attend, but donations are “greatly appreciated.” 10 - noon, 1736 9th Ave.

At 7:30 pm, Green Apple Books on the Park (1231 9th Ave.) is hosting an author event with Matt Sumell to promote his debut novel, Making Nice.

Sumell’s publisher describes the book as “a new classic about love, loss, and the fine line between grappling through grief and fighting for (and with) the only family you’ve got.”

Wednesday:

The next evening, author Rikki Ducornet will appear at Green Apple Books on the Park at 7:30 pm to discuss her latest essay collection, The Deep Zoo. The Nation describes her work as “linguistically explosive... Ducornet is one of the most interesting American writers around.”
