Hayes Valley Leftovers: Gin Workshop, Art Shows, And Highball Happy HourBoxing Room/Aubrie Pick

This week in leftover Hayes Valley news and tidbits, it's all about cocktails, gallery openings, sugary treats and sales.

It feels like spring is finally here. How do we know? Two Sisters Bar & Books released its spring cocktail series – and this season it's all about gin. For $85, guests will get to know the "oft-maligned" spirit a little better with an adventure led by Two Sisters bar chief Michael Cecconi. After a few details about four locally produced gins – complete with tastings – guests will enjoy four full-sized cocktails and house snacks. Check out the event on Sosh – March's event will be on the 24th at 6:30pm. If you can’t attend this month, there’s another in April and in May.

If you're looking to get around the neighborhood in style, let it be known that Public Bikes is now hosting its limited time 2014 closeout sale through March 17th. Snag a C7, Amelie or V7i for $200 or less below the original market value, and use the code CLOSEOUT14 for an extra $50 off.

Happy hour just got a whole lot better in Hayes Valley. With Boxing Room's expanded cocktail menu, the New Orleans-style restaurant has expanded its weekday "Highball Happy Hour" from 3-6pm. Highballs are now half-priced at $5 each, with cocktail like mezcal, super celery soda and lemon; or rum, vintage cola and iced coffee. The menu is also expanding for happy hour courtesy of chef Justin Simoneaux, with new bites including a seasonal assortment of pickles, Cajun boiled peanuts, hushpuppies and crispy boudin balls with creole mustard aioli.

Hungry for some Pi? Celebrate Pi Day (3.14) with a deal on The Pastry Cupboard's pie slices for $3.14. Visit the Market Street location today (Saturday, March 14th) to get the $pi deal, and enter to win a free pie.

The newest salon/art gallery in Hayes Valley, TAYLOR / MONROE, will debut its first art show under its new name. The Photo Show is a collaborative showcase of work featuring three up-and-coming local photographers: Kingston, Taylor Reyes and Lam Nguyen. The opening reception for the event that will run through June 6th is today, March 14th from 8pm-11pm at TAYLOR / MONROE's Grove Street location. Check out the new artwork, enjoy tunes from DJ Meghan Pennie (of local group Heart of Gold) and enjoy light refreshments and libations.

That 3pm weekday slump is real, and you can now get your pick-me-up at La Boulange with a two-for-one tasty treats deal. Now through April 6th, whenever you try one of their new menu items, you'll get another one free from 4pm until closing time.

Though a little further afield, The California Institute of Integral Studies' new gallery opened last week at 1453 Mission St. with a show from visual artist Truong Tran, entitled Framed Targets. The show explores the idea of artists and people of color living in San Francisco as the tech boom and rise in rent make it even more difficult to survive. "We're both invisible and targeted, simultaneously," Tran said in the mini documents (see above) from Slow Clap, a local production company that followed Tran as he prepped for his colorful exhibit. The show will remain open until April 11th.

We let you know last week that Berkeley-based coffee shop Artis Coffee is coming soon to Hayes Valley. Now that they've found a space, they're on the hunt to hire all-star Barista and Lead-Shifts. Check out the HigherMe job descriptions for more information.
