As the weekend (and the spring season) kicks off, we've got a roundup of news odds and ends left over from the week that was, plus upcoming happenings in the 'hood.
First, in odd tidbits, the Examiner reports that the SFPD may or may not be sitting on a briefcase full of songs written by the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, which were confiscated by the police in 1985 because it was also full of drugs, for which Garcia was arrested.
In bar switcheroos, an astute commenter noted earlier last week that signs are up announcing a change of ownership at Hobson's Choice. We checked in with the bartender on duty and learned that the transfer of ownership, effective this month, will actually put ownership of the bar in the hands of Christopher Dickerson, one of the bar's managers. No major changes seem to be in store for the bar.
On the live-music front, Amoeba has two in-store free shows in the coming week:
First, Deadlies are performing Sunday, March 22nd at 2pm. With "a bright blast of sound evolving from the California surf scene and roadhouse honkytonks, and swing with free-wheelin’ references of the best of punk and rock," this one sounds like a good time, and the price is right.
Then, next Tuesday at 6pm, local act Vetiver will be doing a DJ set and signing in anticipation of the album "Complete Strangers," which will be out the same day, and is described as "a stunning collection of songs at once beautiful and fragile, sweeping and delicate, haunted and hopeful."
For concerned neighbors and pedestrians who might have missed the notice, the Panhandle improvement meeting to discuss changes to the park will be Saturday morning at 11am, at the Ashbury path. Swing by to weigh in on what's been done to improve Ashbury's Panhandle intersections, and to meet your neighbors.
On the park side, the de Young is now two weeks into its Botticelli to Braque exhibition on tour from the National Galleries of Scotland, which means this weekend might be a great time to catch it. Tickets are $24 for adults on the weekend (or $21 today).
As another reminder, the revamped track at Kezar Stadium has officially reopened, so consider stopping by to check out the changes on your weekend jog around the neighborhood.
Apart from that it's been a quiet few days in the Haight. Here's wishing you a peaceful and relaxing weekend.
