This Easter weekend, go traditional on Saturday, attend The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’s party on Sunday for a uniquely San Francisco experience, or choose from more fun activities to best enjoy the weekend.

Saturday, April 4th:

Kezar Triangle Community Garden Work Party

Many hands make light work, so join the Kezar Triangle Community Garden Volunteer Work Party from 9am to noon on Saturday. Last year, Parks & Recreation used a $500,000 donation to revamp the triangle with walkways, art installations, landscaping and improved drainage.

Hoodline/Camden Avery

Now that it’s no longer a muddy bog, join others in a weekly session to beautify what Parks & Rec proudly calls “a meadowed oasis.” Refreshments will be provided; be sure to wear closed shoes, long pants and layered clothing.

If interested, RSVP to recparkvolunteer {at} sfgov {dot} org. Kezar Triangle is located between Kezar Drive and Lincoln Way, just west of Kezar Stadium.

Purusha Yoga in the Park

At 11am on Saturday, Purusha Yoga will hold its weekly yoga session “under the big tree at the Big Rec baseball field” near Lincoln and 9th in Golden Gate Park.

All are welcome, including yoga newbies. Donations will be used to support the Purusha Seva Project, an initiative that brings “yoga, art, and health education to underserved and at-risk populations in the Bay Area.”

Eggstravaganza 2015

If you’re looking for traditional Easter activities, SF Rec & Parks will be staging Eggstravaganza 2015 on Saturday from 11am to 3pm at Sharon Meadow.

Attendees will be treated to live entertainment, carnival rides, children’s games, and naturally, an egg hunt. Carnivores will be pleased to learn that Eggstravaganza will also include “a heated barbecue competition between Rec and Park, SF Police and SF Fire.”

Admission is $8 per person, but you can volunteer by contacting recparkvolunteer {at} sfgov {dot} org.

White By Night

On Saturday evening from 7pm to 9pm at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, nocturnal nature lovers can join White By Night, a moonlight exploration of several different plants whose white flowers bloom at night.

Because night-blooming plants like jasmine and Angel’s Trumpets are pollinated by moths and bats, they’re usually quite fragrant, as opposed to daytime flowers that leverage vibrant colors to attract bugs and birds. White By Night is $10 for SFBG members, $20 for nonmembers.

Sunday, April 5th:

Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence 2015 Easter Celebration

On Easter morning, join The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park for their 36th annual Easter celebration. Traditionally, the event is staged in Dolores Park, but due to ongoing renovations, this is the second year that festivities will be held in the park.

At 11am, The Sisters are hosting a children’s Easter egg hunt, but at noon, the adult fun begins. At 1pm, judges will hold an Easter bonnet contest, followed by a Foxy Mary competition at 2pm, and at 3pm, the event’s high point: the Hunky Jesus contest. Contestants are encouraged to check in backstage 30 minutes before each contest “for prejudging.”

Attendees are “encouraged to create their own County Fair-themed costumes,” so break out some gingham and overalls. In keeping with The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence's tradition of inclusion, the Hunky Jesus contest will have an ASL interpreter.

Although the group was founded to fight conformism, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is now a registered non-profit community service organization with 20 orders across North America. Internationally, the group has members ranging from Uruguay to Scotland who put on local celebrations and perform charitable work.

Hellman Hollow is located on JFK Drive near 26th Avenue.

Enjoy the weekend, Sunset dwellers!
