This week in Hayes Valley, we bring word of a new mural installation at the Proxy, a new art show at Momi Toby's Revolution Cafe, a tasting date with Artis Coffee, and some bad news for fans of local artist Zio Ziegler

In association with Mural Music & Arts Project, a mural called "How can we see more than skin color" was painted this past weekend on the previously blank canvas formerly home to a colorful Apex mural. Residents joined in on the mural collaboration by answering the question with sticker add-ons. Get a virtual tour of the new art installation with Periscope and stroll by the art, up now next to Patricia's Green.

April's Fools Day was full of gags, and as we noted a couple days ago, Hayes Valley favorite Souvla transformed into 'La Souvlaria for the day. In case you missed it, here's the guest of honor, local donkey-about-town Johnny Appleseed in costume as "Juan" for the occasion.

In February, we brought news that Berkeley-based Artis Coffee was setting up shop in Hayes Valley. In anticipation of their neighborhood arrival, they've created their first public event at the Octavia Street location. "A Taste of Hayes Valley: Coffee Tasting & Dessert Pairings" will be hosted on Wednesday, May 6th at the newly opened Artis Coffee (we'll keep you posted on the official opening date). Guests can enjoy signature brews from the local team and featured sweets from the new coffee shop's neighbors.

Opening on Saturday, "San Francisco Sites: Urban Pictograms" will feature artwork from Michael E. Goldman at Momi Toby's Revolution Cafe. The San Francisco series features all-new work from the artist, described as "A Pictorial System for Tourists & Residents That Highlights What to See While in Urban San Francisco." The show will host an "informal" opening reception from 5-7pm at Momi Toby's Revolution Cafe (528 Laguna St.), and will remain on display through May 8th.

And finally, some bad news for local art enthusiasts. Back in August, we brought word that local artist Zio Ziegler had transformed Linden Alley with his handiwork in under six hours. Earlier this week, we got a tip that the mural he created had been vandalized, and last night we checked out the artwork to see the majority of it painted over, presumably by the building owner (see above).

Across the street from Blue Bottle, Linden Alley has dramatically changed over the years since many of the popular hangouts (like Blue Bottle neighbor and longtime Linden Alley resident Tazi Designs) first moved in. There's no word yet on who might have defaced the mural.

Anything else afoot in the neighborhood this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
