Tomorrow night, a community meeting will be held to discuss plans for an upcoming walkstop at Haight and Fillmore.

What's a walkstop? It's a focal point that includes wayfinder signs and historical elements to help pedestrians get to know the neighborhood and navigate to nearby destinations.

As we reported earlier this year, the walkstop being planned for the southeast corner of Haight and Fillmore is a joint effort by SF Beautiful and the Lower Haight Merchants and Neighbors Association (LoHaMNA). It received a $33,000 Community Challenge Grant from the Mayor's office in early January, and is now moving through the design and outreach phase.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 29th from 7pm to 8:30pm, a neighborhood meeting will be held at Bean There Cafe (201 Steiner) to present the proposed design and solicit feedback. Residents are encouraged to bring their own neighborhood memories, as oral histories from the Lower Haight will be incorporated into the project.

According to SF Beautiful's timeline, planning for the walkstop should wrap up in June, with permitting and construction slated to begin in July 2015 and last through March of 2016. If all goes according to plan, the completed walkstop will be unveiled next spring.
