Bleary-eyed commuters may have noticed a newcomer in the Embarcadero and Montgomery BART stations. Just last week, the Nebraska-based franchise Scooter's Coffee opened two new coffee shops in the San Francisco BART stations' kiosks .

While Scooter's is relatively new to the Bay Area, the company's co-founder and CEO Don Eckles says they know quite well what San Franciscans want. “Our world-class espresso will match up perfectly with this coffee-loving culture, and our speed of service will align with the needs of busy BART commuters,” he said in a press release.

In addition to hot, iced and blended coffee drinks, commuters can grab smoothies made with real fruit. Breakfast sandwiches and a mobile app are also on the way.

The chain — which was founded in 1998 and now has 120 stores in nine states — is spreading rapidly across the country. Scooter's also opened stores in the Berkeley and Pittsburg BART stations last week, and plans to open 40 new locations in 2015, including several in the Bay Area.

With new Philz Coffee locations sprouting up on the Embarcadero and in the Financial District recently, could this be the start of another FiDi caffeine rush?
