A new-but-old laundromat has opened up on Divisadero near Eddy Street. For decades, 1233 Divisadero St. has been home to laundromats, but a recent change in ownership and a new name has brought the latest operation back into the family.

According to Yelp, Washboard Blues has been through a number of iterations. It first opened its doors under the name Palm's Laundry in 1980, offering coin service laundry to the neighborhood. Jump forward to 1999, and the space was leased and the name changed to Laundry Daze

Now, the laundromat is going through another name and management change—but this time, it's returning to its roots. In late 2014, the original owner's grandson, Andrew Hawthorne, inherited the business. He took over operations along with his father, renaming it Washboard Blues in honor of the neighborhood's rich musical history

The opening of Washboard Blues was attended by District 5 Supervisor London Breed, who shared that Washboard's owners had dedicated the mural on the side of the building to the neighborhood.

The mural was completed last year by artist Mel Waters last year, but the laundromat's new name certainly fits in with the theme of the mural.

Welcome to Divisadero, Washboard Blues!

Washboard Blues is open 9am-9pm Wednesdays through Mondays. The laundromat is closed on Tuesdays.
