North Beach Week: Politics, Waterfront Symphony, Comedy And More

North Beach Week: Politics, Waterfront Symphony, Comedy And MorePier 27, via SF Symphony.

The election for District 3 supervisor is way off in November, but the race already informed our news coverage this past week and the events calendar coming up.

Each candidate is busy on the trail. Incumbent Julie Christensen talked with the Northeast Waterfront Advisory Group (NEWAG) about the possibility that an affordable housing development at Broadway and Front Street could include a broader mix of housing at a public meeting this past Wednesday night. Aaron Peskin, meanwhile, has a group of local artists putting on a fundraiser for him this Wednesday and Thursday at the Live Worms Gallery at 1345 Grant Ave. (More on that in the events section below).

In our other coverage of North Beach and surrounding neighborhoods this week, we got the details on a new set of historical markers coming from the Top of Broadway CBD, our friend Dijon of Souls Of Society went on a photographic journey through Chinatown, and we published this feature interview with North Beach artist Jeremy Fish

If you're looking to get more involved in your neighborhood or are just interested in who's doing what, we also put together this handy overview of all the neighborhood groups in the North Beach area, including key committees and individuals.

And now for the events calendar for this weekend and beyond.

Punch Line Comedy Club: Chad Daniels
July 11th evening shows
444 Battery St.
Host description: It’s this acidic material, cut with underlying sweetness and served up with a knowing smirk, that perfectly encapsulates Daniels’s take-no-prisoners style of comedy. Even though he was born and raised there, he’s not interested in Minnesota Nice. With his onstage swagger and arsenal of incisive, uproarious material, he practically bullies the audience into loving him. Sounds awesome, but that’s not how I talk.

Sunday, July 12th
