The SF Planning Department recently had a project review meeting with the architects for One Stockton St., currently home to the flagship SF location of the Apple Store. Next summer, the technology giant is set to move out of that location and into its new flagship store at 300 Post St., right on Union Square.

Once Apple moves out, One Stockton's owners will remove all branding from the building and replace the facade. The project will need a Major Permit to Alter (MPTA), as new construction is within the Kearny-Mason-Market-Sutter Conservation District. The MPTA permit is for exterior design only.

Before the MPTA hearing, the plan will go to the Historic Preservation Committee's Architectural Review Committee for design feedback. Planning has given the project a 12-month timeline for design and entitlements, but that is subject to change, based on response time.

The new Apple store will be three stories tall, with 23,470 square feet of retail. The surrounding plaza is being reconfigured to increase in size from 4,586 square feet to 6,059 square feet; a fountain designed by the late SF sculptor Ruth Asawa will be moved roughly 10 feet south. The fountain's new location will be in the center of the stairs leading from Stockton Street to the renovated and expanded plaza. (Appleinsider.com has more details on the new Apple Store.)
