In his newsletter this week, SFPD Central Station Capt. Lazar reports that a police officer lost his wallet near Washington and Montgomery streets in the FiDi and got it back from a good Samaritan.

He writes:

In the wallet was his official police identification, credit cards, $200 in cash, and his driver’s license. He was required to prepare a report and none of us believed he would see these items again. A good Samaritan happened to find the wallet and mailed it back to the Officer’s home address. Everything was intact and nothing was missing. I called the person and thanked him on behalf of the Officer and the station. The man said that he just stumbled upon the wallet. We are all very thankful.

After dealing with ne'er-do-wells all day, that's got to feel good. Read the newsletter online for more Central Station and SFPD happenings.

Now for the not-so-nice news.

Three men in a black sedan robbed a 24-year-old man at 4:40am Sept. 7th at Annie Alley and Stevenson Street in the FiDi/SoMa. One of the suspects pulled out a gray handgun and demanded the victim's property, and another suspect took it. They made off with a security radio, cell phone and notebook computer.

A call came in to SFPD at 5:46pm Sept. 7th to report a suspected explosive device at Post and Powell streets in Union Square. The caller reported a man handling a "suspicious backpack." It was determined that the device contained no explosive material.

A bank on the 900 block of Kearny Street in Chinatown was robbed at 1:11pm Sept. 8th. The suspect, a man about 60–65 years old, entered the bank and gave the teller, a 27-year-old woman, a demand note. She complied and handed him money. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

A woman, 44, was robbed of her smart phone with force at 5:30pm Sept. 8th at California and Montgomery streets in the FiDi by a woman, 18, and two other women in their twenties. They approached her from behind and grabbed her phone. The victim was pushed to the ground and struggled with the suspects. The second two suspects fled on foot in unknown direction while the first was held by a citizen.  Officers arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody. The victim reported a small laceration on her knees, but refused medical treatment.
