Reader Dana reached out to us last weekend to inquire about the future of the long-vacant retail space on Geary and Divisadero, formerly home to the HoneyBaked Ham Store. We did some research, and the answer certainly isn't as tasty as its predecessor: Comcast will be taking over 2186 Geary Blvd. in the coming months for an XFINITY store.

For those who may not recall, HoneyBaked Ham's Geary & Divisadero outpost, which opened way back in 1984, closed in January 2014. There are still HoneyBaked Ham stores in Colma, Oakland, Concord, Fremont and Pleasanton.

The corner of Divisadero and Geary is a busy one, with multiple bus lines running through it, and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion nearby. SFCitizen recently lamented the long vacancy and suggested that the space should be a medical building, with one commenter noting that, "This should be a cafe—there is no good place to eat when you have a loved one in the hospital in this area."

Those wishes are likely not to be fulfilled, as a proposal for Conditional Use Authorization has been filed with the Planning Department for the space to the space to be converted into an XFINITY store. According to Comcast's website, XFINITY stores function as spaces where customers can pay their cable bills, test out new products, and receive customer support.

For those nostalgic for the days when you could pick up a honey-baked ham after a doctor's appointment, never fear. You can still send a honey-baked ham as a gift (or to yourself) using the company's website
