This Sunday, September 13th, the Urban Air Market is returning to Hayes Valley. The "curated marketplace for sustainable design," founded in 2005, will take over Patricia's Green from 11am-6pm.
130 designers and artists, largely from the Bay Area, will sell their wares at the event, which bills itself as the largest outdoor design festival in the country. The wares on offer are largely handmade, and include everything from jewelry to bath products to shoes.
If shopping isn't enough of an enticement, local bands will perform at the event, including The Joy Drops, Sara Judge, Diablo Jazz Company, The View From Bernal Hill, and Amaranth Quartet. Artspan will put on an interactive community mural project, inspired by the work of artist Joshua Coffy. PROXY will host a handful of food trucks for the occasion, and Hayes Valley's many restaurants and bars will have their doors open for a snack or drink break.
Urban Air is also holding a special meet-and-greet for vendors tonight at Gather (541 Octavia St.), at which former market vendors like Local Take and Heliotrope will discuss how they turned their businesses into brick-and-mortar operations.
The Hayes Valley event is the first of three for Urban Air this fall: it'll also host an event in the Lower Haight on Saturday, October 10th, and hold a holiday market at Pier 70 on Sunday, December 13th. Applications to sell at those events are still being accepted.
To RSVP to the market (admission is free) and see a full list of vendors, go here. We also have some first-hand accounts of previous markets in the Lower Haight and Hayes Valley, if you want to get a sense of what it's like to attend.
