Just last month, we gave you an in-depth look into the soon-to-open Strut Center, a project of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF). While SFAF is unable to provide an opening date for Strut, located at 470 Castro St., we've learned that it may already be looking to expand its space into the neighboring building, formerly occupied by A.G. Ferrari Foods, which closed on August 1st.
According to an application filed with the Planning Department, Strut is exploring the possibility of expanding its programming into the ground-floor 468 Castro St. space. The application lists proposed uses of the space that include hosting community meetings and events, along with group meetings for various programs.
SFAF will need to apply for a Conditional Use permit in order to take over the space, and the application notes that they plan on performing minor improvements to the former specialty foods storefront.
SFAF Director of Marketing and Communications Andrew Hattori stressed that SFAF is only in an exploratory phase with the idea. "We are having very preliminary discussions and have no specific plans," he told us. "Once we open the Strut center, we'll be able to see how the existing space works and fits our needs."
When asked about any updates on opening the Strut Center, Hattori explained that the delay is due to waiting on clinical licensing from the state.
