It's beginning to look a lot like fall. But before you check-out to enjoy the cool weather this weekend, catchup on all that you missed this week:
First, District 6 Supervisor Jane Kim threw her hat in the ring for State Senate, rivaling District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener for the seat in 2018. Here's a brief look at how the two candidates differ.
In local politics, there's one open seat on the San Francisco County Transportation Authority’s Citizens Advisory Committee. Anyone interested in helping to steer the Transportation Authority Board's investments in neighborhood and citywide transportation infrastructure is encouraged to apply.
In case you missed it on Saturday, Central City Extra took a deep look at the affordable condos at 1400 Mission St., where developers' affordable housing fees actually go, and a few affordable projects in the works in and around the neighborhood.
In the dining scene, restaurants going tipless may be the talk of the town, but a pair of SoMa restaurants have abandoned the practice after just 10 months. Thad Vogler of Bar Agricole and Trou Normand told Inside Scoop that it was impossible to keep servers on staff, because so many of his competitors have stuck with the traditional model. "We were hoping more restaurants would switch, but for now, it’s been impossible to compete with more traditional places in keeping front-of-house staff, who prefer the control and upside of the tip system," he said.
Another foodie trend: quick-service eateries applying for liquor licenses. While the jury is still out on Starbucks' and Taco Bell Cantina's applications to serve beer and wine, Louisiana Fried Chicken jumped into the ring with an application this week.
Looking forward to this weekend, tonight is Third Thursday in Yerba Buena. From 5-10pm, a number of galleries, museums, bars and restaurants around the neighborhood will offer discounted entry and drinks. Which gives you a great excuse to check out the new art and engineering exhibition at the Contemporary Jewish Museum.
Finally, let us know if you spot Snoop Dogg around the neighborhood this weekend. His alter-ego, DJ Snoopadelic, is making an at 1015 Folsom on Saturday night.
