Each week. we'll be featuring an especially interesting event in the neighborhood, based on the event submissions we get and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered for next week, please submit your event here.
Whether you're a comic book nerd, graphic novel aficionado, or someone who just likes a good creepy story, an event tomorrow night at Comix Experience (305 Divisadero) may tickle your fancy. From 6-8pm, as part of the local comic-book store's monthly Graphic Novel Club, artist Tyler Crook will be on hand signing copies of his book Harrow County, a horror comic that includes witchcraft, monsters, ghouls and murderers.
The event is part of the Graphic Novel Club at Comix Experience, which owner Brian Hibbs created to offset the increased minimum wage for his workers. Members get a monthly book of the shop's choice, via either a monthly or yearly subscription. As of December 1st, Hibbs said the club had 264 members, putting it at 80 percent of its goal of 334. The Kid's Graphic Novel Club, which caters to ages 9-13, currently has 62 members.
Hibbs' employees now get paid a minimum of $14 an hour, and any additional funds raised through the club will go to them, not the store.
If music, yoga or candle-making are more your style, here are some other events in the neighborhood to put on your calendar this week:
