Several tipsters, as well as the Examiner, have informed us that police enforcement of stop sign violations for cyclists has officially returned to the Wiggle. SFPD Park Station's initial enforcement of the law this summer drew a host of criticism, sparking jam-packed community meetings and even a "stop-in" protest.
“It’s exactly what I said to the community,” Park Station's Captain Sanford stated. “We could resume enforcement at any time.”
Indeed, back in August, he had declared the enforcement "over for now, but we can revisit it at any time, if we need to."
A law that would make cyclists who yield, rather than fully stop at stop signs, the lowest traffic enforcement priority will go before the Board of Supervisors' Land Use and Transportation Committee on Monday. Mayor Ed Lee opposes the law, which will need eight votes from the Supervisors to pass.
