Super Bowl 50 is on its way at the end of this month, and with it, the Super Bowl City event on the Embarcadero, which will knock out F-Market street from the Ferry Building to the Castro for the week of the big event.
Though bus service will be offered in place of the trains, the Castro Merchants, which say business benefits from history-loving tourists who ride the F-Market into the neighborhood, are concerned shoppers will decline when the streetcars aren't running.
According to the Examiner, the city has responded by creating special signage and other advertising around Super Bowl City, all of which will encourage visitors to head to the Castro to shop. The cost of the signage will be covered by the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the SFMTA, and the Super Bowl Committee.
"Overall, it will be a benefit," Castro Merchants president Daniel Bergerac told the Examiner. "They’ll be helping us to promote the Castro. It feels like we’re all on the right path and doing the right thing."
