While some of us are still working to burn off those extra holiday calories, food, food and more food is popping up all around the neighborhood.

Yesterday, The Perennial opened its doors on Ninth Street, just off Market. The new restaurant's goal is an ambitious one: to rethink the restaurant industry's role in saving the planet, via a vegetable-forward menu and innovative cocktails.

If you're craving a burger, we broke the news last week that Popsons, the new burger joint from Causwells headed to Sixth and Market, was plotting a second, temporary outpost at 330 Townsend, just across from the Caltrain station. Now, Eater SF reports that the location will debut for lunch next Tuesday, Jan. 26th, with a variety of cheesy burgers, chili, salads and fries.

Ame, the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant in the St. Regis Hotel that was particularly popular with celebrities, will be no more come March. Inside Scoop reports that the couple behind the nine-year-old restaurant decided not to extend their lease so they could focus on their other spot, Napa Valley's Terra. The space won't be closed for long: the St. Regis plans to launch an eight-week pop-up called Grill, featuring food from the hotel's own chef. We'll keep you posted on the new permanent tenant. 

There's a new Japanese option for Design District regulars. Inside Scoop reports that Okane, from the chef behind ritzy, Michelin-starred sushi spot Omakase, has opened up right next door. It has many more seats and a far more affordable menu, but plenty of the same ingredients imported from Tokyo.
