Last night many Bay Area residents were treated to a fantastic evening with Angela Davis and Johanna Fernandez. They both read excerpts from "Writings on the wall" a book by Mumia Abu-Jamal. Ms.Davis spoke VERY highly of Kendrick Lamar and his Grammy performance. Noting that was a proud moment for the culture. She also mentioned that she was very impressed with all the different movements and said that,"now is the time to strike" meaning, voices need to be expressed loudly and clearly at this very moment. She went on to say that," these movements and organizations recognize that leadership does not have to correspond with conventional modes of leadership that value the charismatic individual male leader. They recognize collective leadership, they recognize women leadership". She spoke on international movements as well. Palestine being a major subject to name one. To top things off at the end of the evening, she signed my Life Magazine which portrayed her on the cover. Powerful.
