Bike Love (and Breakage) Brings Neighborhood Together

On Sunday, a crowd of people with their malfunctioning bicycles were at Spokeland, a bicycle education resource on the corner of 37th and West St. While learning to replace my gear hub, I met a bee keeper, an anthropology grad student, and a young traveler with his dog— all calmly waiting for one of the sage volunteers to guide them through the next step in their repair process. Spokeland charges a small fee for use of time/tools in the shop, but help is free, and the volunteers’ enthusiasm to share knowledge is inspiring.
