The weekly SFPD Central Station newsletter wasn't published this week, so let's get right into the crime recaps from the past week, as reported by SFPD.

Man says no to handout; gets shaken down for money

A 25-year-old man was shaken down for money at 10pm Feb. 12th on the 100 block of Post Street in Union Square. A man, about age 40, asked him for money, and when the victim refused, the suspect grabbed him by the collar and demanded his cash. The victim was fearful and complied, and the suspect fled the scene.

Man's nose broken after altercation

Two men—a suspect in his thirties and a victim, age 44—got into an altercation on the 600 block of Post Street in Lower Nob Hill at 8:13pm Feb. 13th. It escalated and resulted in the suspect punching the victim several times to the face. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including a fractured nose, and was transported to the hospital.

Thief pulls gun, skates off with boom box

If you regularly walk on Battery Street south of California Street in the FiDi, you might recognize a homeless resident, age 53 who often listens to classic rock on a boom box and tells people to "have a nice day" or "have a good one." He left his belongings in their usual spot on that block for no more than eight minutes, he told us, while he used the restroom in a nearby business at 6:24pm Feb. 15th. When he came out, a man about 18-20 years old was stealing his boom box. He gave chase, but the man brandished what the victim believes was a handgun and got away on a skateboard.

Woman falls, suffers scratch in cell phone grab

A woman, 25, was walking and talking on her cell phone at 6:45pm Feb. 15th on the 200 block of Bush Street in the FiDi when two males, ages 15–20, came from behind and yanked it out of her hand. She tried to hang on, but fell from the struggle and suffered a scratch on her hand. The suspects fled on foot.

Asking for directions a ruse for robbery

At 10:50pm Feb. 15th at Geary Street and Grant Avenue in Union Square, a man in his forties approached a man, 24, asking for directions. The suspect then put his hand into the victim's pocket and said that he would leave if the man gave him money, which he did, but then the suspect demanded more. The victim gave the suspect all of the money he had, and then the suspect pointed an unknown dark object him. Fearing for his safety, the victim fled the scene. 

Man grabs woman's neck, snatches off necklace

Another necklace grab, which we haven't heard about in a while, happened at Broadway and Stockton Street on the border of Chinatown and Russian Hill at 12:43pm Feb. 16th. A woman, 44, was walking on Broadway when she was approached from behind by a man in his twenties who grabbed her around the neck and snatched her necklace. He then fled eastbound on Broadway.

Home invaders pistol whip man, steal TV and laptop

A home invasion robbery took place at 8:40pm Feb. 16th on the 2100 block of Mason Street in North Beach. Two suspects—one in his twenties, the other unknown—entered through an unlocked front door. The first suspect pistol-whipped a 26-year-old man, and both of them took a TV and laptop before fleeing in a four-door light-colored sedan. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including a cut to the side of his head, and was transported to the hospital.

Fight leads to cutting, bike robbery

On the 2600 block of Mason Street in Fisherman's Wharf at 4:45am Feb. 17th, two men—one in his fifties, the other age 36—got in a physical altercation. The man in his fifties pulled out a knife and cut the other man one time above the eye, then took his bicycle and fled. The victim was taken to the hospital.

Hot prowler makes off with computers, phone and more

An intoxicated man, 23, returned home to the 800 block of Bush St. in Lower Nob Hill at about 1am Feb. 18th, and at some point, awoke to see a man, about 30–35, in his apartment. The victim fell back asleep, and when he woke up around 3:45pm, discovered his laptops, cell phone, hard drive, and other miscellaneous items were missing. There was no sign of forced entry.

Man gets beat up, robbed of gold teeth grill and cell phone

At 3:45pm Feb. 18th, a man, 38, was standing in a park near California and Quincy Streets in Chinatown when two men in their twenties approached him from behind, punched him in the face, and knocked him to the ground. They kicked him several times, and one suspect took the victim's gold teeth grill while the other stole his cell phone. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries including missing teeth, a swollen eye and bruises on his knee, and was taken to a hospital. The suspects fled on foot.
