Food Inc. To Close After More Than 20 Years On California & DivisPhoto: R. A. Schuetz/Hoodline

After more than 20 years, Food Inc., a European-style cafe and wine bar known for its locally-sourced food and live jazz, is closing its doors at California & Divisadero. In its place will be Scopo Divino, a new wine bar.

Tipster Holland wrote in after noticing a Change of Ownership notice on the window, saying, “According to our server, Food Inc. will be closing in mid-March to make way for a wine bar.”

We have not yet received comment from the owner of Food Inc. on the reasons for the decision, but have confirmed that the restaurant will be closing and that Scopo Divino has applied for a beer and wine license at the location. According to city records, Food Inc. opened in 1991.

According to Scopo Divino’s Facebook page, the wine bar has been looking for a location since fall of 2014, and found the California Street spot after losing out on locations on Valencia and in the Fillmore.

If you're a Food Inc. regular, you'll want stop by in the next few weeks to say goodbye to the neighborhood standby.
