Last week, Girl Scout Sierra, and her mother, Virginia were selling Girl Scout cookies just outside the Castro Street Muni station. Although most of the people they encounter are very friendly, it isn't always easy to be on the street for long periods of time, they tell me.
A Muni security person had told Sierra and Virginia that an unknown man had hit the girl scouts before them on the head. During our interview, there was a young man dressed in black that seemed agitated and was talking to himself hovering nearby. That was the alleged man, Virginia told me.
"Apparently, this is his turf."
Downtown is worse, apparently. Virginia told me that they have had people steal money, give the wrong amount of money and walk away quickly, and give counterfeit twenty-dollar bills. One person even whacked Sierra in the head.
"Honestly, it makes me feel like, what do the police have to put up with every day if we're selling girl scout cookies?"
