SFPD has released a sketch of a man suspected of carrying out a violent assault that took place in Duboce Triangle on February 23rd, and is asking the public for help in identifying him.

Dean Ayers and Mary Artist were walking home when they were approached by four young men on the 100 block of Sanchez Street. The men threatened to rape Mary—and when Ayers told them to back off, the couple was violently beaten. Ayers suffered a badly broken leg, and Artist is still recovering from a serious concussion and brain hemorrhage. A GoFundMe set up for the couple has raised $31,995 so far.

"Video was located at 100 block of Sanchez Street. Due to poor lighting, the video is very grainy," said the SFPD in a press release. "The male victim, who had the best recollection of the incident, participated in a session with a forensic artist. Attached is the result."

According to police, "the primary suspect was the only person who engaged the victims and participated in the assault. The other three stood by and watched."

Police are currently following up on potential leads, and the sketch has been circulated throughout the city's police force. Members of the public are asked to contact investigators if they were in the area of the crime when it happened, or if they have any information regarding the suspects.

The sketch was released only a day after a Town Hall meeting, which was held to address residents' concerns about crime and quality of life issues around Duboce Triangle. At the meeting, Park Station's Captain Sanford promised to dispatch more foot beat patrol officers and a rapid response unit to the neighborhood.

If you have any information about the incident or suspects, you can contact Sgt. Rob Terry of Park Police Station's Special Investigative Team by calling (415) 242-3000. Anonymous tips can be submitted to the SFPD tip line at 415-575-4444 or tex-a-tip to TIP411, with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
